Wildland Fire Technology Certificate

The fire service is one of the most dynamic employers in the country.  This CRC program is designed for students who want to gain certification as a wildland firefighter through the National Wildland Coordinating Group (NWCG). This program will provide training in hand crew formation, fireline construction, and using wildland fire equipment to be certified and gain entry into the wildland firefighting workforce. This program includes arduous physical conditioning, including hiking with up to 45 pounds of weight and other strenuous outdoor activities.

1 Student must be an employee of a federal fire fighting agency or a member of a state or local fire agency to enroll and be qualified as a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) or State Certified Firefighter I.

2 Student must be an employee of a federal fire fighting agency or a member of a state or local fire agency.

3 Student must be an employee of a federal wildland fire fighting agency (which includes: US Dept. of Agriculture, Forest Service, the US Dept. of Interior\'s Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, US Fish & Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs) or a state fire agency.

Career Options/Outlook:

Firefighters control and extinguish fires or respond to emergency situations where life, property, or the environment is at risk. Duties may include fire prevention, emergency medical service, hazardous material response, search and rescue, and disaster assistance.
