Transfer path

Potential Transfer Majors:

  • History B.A.
  • Social Science B.A.

Importance of Studying History:

The study of history equips students with cultural literacy while promoting critical thinking and nurturing well-informed perspectives of today’s world.

Potential Career/Options After Completing a Bachelor's Degree:

Students with a Bachelor’s degree in history are prepared to pursue careers in business, finance, journalism, historical preservation and restoration, curatorial work in museums and historical sites, film research, and a myriad of other career options requiring strong oral and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. A Bachelor’s degree in history prepares students to continue their education and ultimately pursue careers in education (elementary, secondary, and postsecondary levels), law, public history (archivists, curators), and a myriad of other professions requiring strong oral and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Advising Notes:

  • Students can substitute ESLW 340 for ENGWR 300/480.
  • Students wishing to declare a major in history are encouraged to meet with a history professor, in addition to an academic counselor, to discuss courses, transfer plans, and career goals. The History Department is located on the third floor of Davies Hall.

Other Notes to Students Preparing to Transfer:

  • See ASSIST.ORG for the transfer requirements of the institution to which you plan to transfer.
  • The UC system requires proficiency in a language other than English equivalent to two years of high school study. See a counselor about fulfilling this requirement.

Honors Courses (H):

Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better who complete 15 or more units of Honors coursework earn an Honors Transfer Certificate and can take advantage of honors-to-honors transfer agreements with highly selective colleges and universities, both public and private.
