Potential Career/Options After Completing a Bachelor's Degree:

  • program director in a publicly funded ECE program
  • preschool teacher in a school district
  • licensing analyst

With additional graduate coursework:

  • special education teacher
  • child life specialist
  • K-12 credentialed teacher

Advising Notes:

  • Students can substitute ESLW 340 for ENGWR 300/480.
  • Students using this degree to prepare for the Liberal Studies or Child Development pathway to multiple subjects credential at CSUS should meet with a counselor and follow what is listed in ASSIST.ORG in order to choose the correct general education and elective courses.
  • ECE 320 and 321 both have a lab and a lecture component. Each course requires students to complete 108 hours in an approved early education classroom. Students taking these courses will have the option of completing their practicum experience at the ARC Child Development Center (CDC), at their worksite (if it meets required lab placement criteria), or from a department-approved community placement site.
  • Placements at community sites and the ARC CDC will require the following immunizations: a current TB test (0-12 months), T-DAP (within 10 years), and MMR. Students may sign a waiver for the flu vaccine.
  • Students must complete both ECE 300 and ECE 312/PSYC 372 with a "C" or better before taking ECE 320.

Other Notes:

  • ZTC: With the proper selection of courses, this program can be completed without paying for any textbooks. Look for the ZTC symbol in the class schedule. Learn more on the ZTC page of the college website.

Other Notes to Students Preparing to Transfer:

  • See ASSIST.ORG for the transfer requirements of the institution to which you plan to transfer.
  • The UC system requires proficiency in a language other than English equivalent to two years of high school study. See a counselor about fulfilling this requirement.

Honors Courses (H):

Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better who complete 15 or more units of Honors coursework earn an Honors Transfer Certificate and can take advantage of honors-to-honors transfer agreements with highly selective colleges and universities, both public and private.
