Career path

Career Options:

This degree prepares students for entry-level positions in the automotive industry.

Advising Notes:

  • This degree can be completed using either the local AA/AS general education (GE) pattern or the Cal-GETC transfer GE pattern. See a counselor to determine which pattern is best for you based on your academic goals.
  • Students can substitute ESLW 340 for ENGL C1000/C1000H (formerly known as ENGWR 300/480).

Scheduling Notes:

  • AT 330 is scheduled during the 1st 8 weeks and AT 331 during the 2nd 8 weeks in the spring, so they can be taken in the same semester in the spring.
  • AT 333 is scheduled during the 1st 8 weeks and AT 332 during the 2nd 8 weeks in the fall, so they can be taken in the same semester in the fall.

Other Notes:

  • This degree prepares students for all nine Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications, including Advanced Engine Performance (L-1). It also fulfills the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) requirements for CA State Smog Check Inspector and CA State Smog Check Repair Technician test candidates.
  • At the end of the fourth semester, students qualify for the Automotive Technology certificate.
  • This degree can be started in the fall as well. See a counselor to adjust the course work.
  • An internship (AT 298) is required as it opens up potential employment opportunities. Students can earn at least 1 unit for related paid or unpaid work experience including volunteer and internship positions through AT 298. This course also works toward satisfying GE Area L7B. See the Work Experience website for more information.
