Transfer path

Potential Transfer Majors:

The courses in this roadmap prepare students to apply for the Registered Nursing and Respiratory Care programs at ARC.

Advising Notes:

  • Students are advised to take only one lab science class per semester, to maximize their likelihood of success.
  • Students are advised to not take a lab science class over the summer, to maximize their likelihood of success.
  • GENSCI 90 and 91 are not degree applicable, but they help students maximize the likelihood of success. Their units do not count toward the 60 units needed for this degree.
  • Students can substitute ESLW 340 for ENGL C1000/C1000H (formerly known as ENGWR 300/480).
  • Elective Courses: any elective courses numbered 100-499, or having a 4-digit number starting with C.
  • This degree can be completed using either the local AA/AS general education (GE) pattern or the Cal-GETC transfer GE pattern. See a counselor to determine which pattern is best for you based on your academic goals.

Registered Nursing:

  • COMM C1000 and ANTH 310 are part of the Registered Nursing degree, but can be taken prior to enrolling in the program.

Respiratory Care:

  • AH 311 is required for admission to the Respiratory Care program.
  • ENGL C1000 and ANTH 310 are part of the Respiratory Care degree, but can be taken prior to enrolling in the program.

Registered Nursing:

To enroll in the Registered Nursing program at ARC, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the following prerequisite courses, passing each course with a “C” or better:

  • BIOL 430
  • BIOL 431
  • BIOL 440 or 442


Students must also have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the following prerequisite courses, passing each course with a “C” or better:

  • ENGL C1000/C1000H or ESLW 340
  • NUTRI 300
  • PSYC C1000/C1000H


Applications will be accepted in February for the following fall semester, and September for the spring semester. 


The Registered Nursing program at ARC has eligibility requirements and a selection process. See the college website for more information.


Respiratory Care:

The Respiratory Care program currently accepts students once per year for the spring semester, which begins in January. The deadline to submit an application is the second Friday in October.


To apply to the Respiratory Care program at ARC, students must have a cumulative college GPA of 2.0 and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the following prerequisite courses, passing each course with a “C” or better:

  • AH 311
  • BIOL 430
  • BIOL 431
  • BIOL 440 or 442
